Shift the Field

You've had the scan and the report has been read more than once. You've searched for answers, asked questions and spoken to the people you hoped would have them.
Some questions have been answered. Others remain.
You may know what has been found, yet still not know whether it explains everything you're experiencing.
You may understand the diagnosis, but not why the symptoms behave the way they do.
You may even have been told that the findings don't fully explain what you're feeling.
So you're left trying to make sense of it all.
Why am I getting these symptoms?
Will they settle?
Am I helping or making things worse?
Should I rest or keep moving?
What happens now?
That is often the point at which people arrive here.
You still have to live your life.
You still have to decide whether to go for the walk, get back on the golf course, paddle out into the surf, go to the gym or simply trust your body enough to move without wondering whether you're about to make everything worse. But it's not just that. It's the energy it consumes and the strain no one else can see. It's to stop having to think about the symptoms all the time, whilst not knowing what exactly to do. That's the gap.
It's the gap between understanding what's been found and knowing how to move forwards.
Shift the Field was created for that gap.
Not to replace a diagnosis or to argue with a scan.
But to help you get on with your life instead of waiting as if you're hanging in the balance. When you've been advised to "Take it easy" but "don't do too much". What does that actually mean?
Because recovery isn't built on one answer.
It's built on hundreds of decisions made over time.
Some things remain outside your influence. But there are certain conditions within our control. The latter are the ones that make the crucial difference.
So what do we do?
We Shift the Field: we influence the conditions that affect how your system responds which affect how you move, behave and ultimately the choices you make. Instead of being governed by symptoms and uncertainty, you know what to do and how to do it.
If that field stays exactly the same, the response also stays the same.
That doesn’t mean the diagnosis doesn’t matter or scans aren’t important.
It also doesn’t mean treatment has no place. Of course it does.
But understanding what has been found and knowing what influences your responses aren’t the same thing. One gives you information, the other gives you a practical way forward.
Over the years, one thing became increasingly obvious.
Pain was the entry point but underneath it the same process kept appearing.
Different people, histories and diagnoses.
But when you changed the conditions under which the person is operating, the response changed.
And when the response changed, so did the person’s experience. From uncertainty and frustration to a sense of control and relief.
That’s why Shift the Field sits underneath everything we do.
It’s not a treatment or a technique.
It’s the mechanism.
It's knowing how it works, why it works and what makes it work.
So what does that mean in practice?
The field is everything influencing how you are functioning in that moment.
Your physiology, attention, what you're expecting, how you're moving. The meaning you've attached to what's happening. Your confidence, environment and your recent experiences. None of those work independently. They're interacting all the time, creating the conditions from which every response emerges. These factors are not set in stone and therefore neither are your responses. This is of fundamental importance.

You can influence how you move.
How you gradually build confidence.
How you respond when symptoms fluctuate.
The experiences you’re creating.
The meaning you’re attaching to those experiences.
The level of protection your system believes is necessary.
As those conditions begin to change, the field changes.
And when the field changes, the response can to change with it.
Recovery doesn’t begin when every question has been answered.
It begins when you stop waiting for certainty to give you permission to move forwards.
That doesn’t mean guessing.
It doesn’t mean ignoring a diagnosis.
It doesn’t mean pretending everything is fine.
It means recognising that uncertainty and progress are not mutually exclusive.
If you find yourself in that uncomfortable place of not knowing what to do next, don’t make the mistake of thinking your only option is to wait.
Start by asking: How do I Shift the Field?
Because that is where recovery starts.
You no longer need every answer before you can begin moving forwards again.
You just need to know where to start.
